Punjab, Haryana temperatures dip after rainfall

Chandigarh : It was a pleasant day in most places in Punjab and Haryana Friday with moderate rainfall bringing down temperatures after days of scorching heat.

Temperatures across both the states fell four to 12 degrees below normal.

Patiala town in Punjab, 90 km from here, received 25 mm of rainfall, the highest in the region, bringing down the temperature by 10 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature here was 30.1 degrees.

The maximum temperature in Sikh holy city Amritsar was at 28 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana recorded a maximum of 29.1 degrees – both 12 degrees below normal.

Chandigarh, which has been receiving morning showers over the last three days, had 11 mm of rainfall Friday, bringing the temperature down to 27.8 degrees – a cool 11 degrees below normal.

In Haryana, Hissar remained hotter than other places with the maximum temperature at 37.4 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.

Karnal received 15 mm of rainfall and had a maximum temperature of 29.5 degrees, 11 degrees below normal.

Ambala too received 8 mm of rain with the maximum temperature at 30.5 degrees.

Met officials here said that moderate to heavy showers were expected in a few places in both the states in the next 24 hours.
