It is Real's 30th league title, and ends a four-year title drought.

The game began badly for Madrid, with a 16th-minute goal from Mallorca forward Varela, taking the score 1-0.

Had this score held Barcelona would have won the league, as they were comfortably beating Tarragona team Gimnastic. While Madrid remained 1-0 down, Barcelona went 1-0 up from a Puyol goal, then 2-0 up from a Messi goal in minute 33, then 3-0 up from Ronaldinho.

Madrid waited until minute 67 to equalize from a Reyes goal, set up by a complex play run by Robinho and Higauin.

The team won the league in minute 79 when a Diarra strike tripped up goalkeeper Moya, and entered the Mallorca net. Two minutes later, Reyes made the score 3-1. Madrid fans went wild in Bernabeau.

With Madrid's game won, the Barca-Nastic match became an academic affair. The Tarragona team scored a goal, but was batted back with a fourth and fifth from Barca, to end 5-1: a dramatic score but the league was already in Madrid's hands.
