Dhoni’s swimming pool gets clean chit

Ranchi : It's happy times for Indian wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. A few days after his elevation as vice captain of the Indian cricket team, local authorities have okayed a swimming pool at his Ranchi house.

After his poor performance in the World Cup, Dhoni faced much flak and even his under-construction house was not spared the anger of irate fans.

Locals had objected to the construction of a swimming pool in the premises of the house coming up in Harmu Housing Colony in the capital saying it would add to the water crisis.

A second report by a team of experts has okayed the 150-long X 40-feet wide swimming pool. The report by experts, submitted to the Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) on Saturday, said "there would not be any wastage of water by constructing the swimming pool". The housing society will take a decision on the issue soon.

The first report, submitted by the RRDA two weeks ago, was not accepted by the urban development department, which raised objections on a few points. A second report was asked for.

Locals say the pool would need 400,000 gallons of water, which would lead to water scarcity in the locality. The Jharkhand government had last year gifted 5,000 sq ft land to Dhoni for his outstanding performance. The market price of the land is Rs.4 million.

The residents are not convinced with the RRDA report and plan to move the Jharkhand High Court.
