New Delhi : The summer sun seemed to play hide and seek among the thick clouds over Delhi Tuesday, giving hope that there would be some more rain. The weatherman has said it could rain later in the evening and on Wednesday.

The day started with the sun shining bright. The high humidity, recorded at 98 percent, was a reminder of the sultry weekend a fortnight back.

The temperature recorded at 10.30 a.m. was 33 degrees, almost the same as the maximum recorded over the past four wet-spell days.

It, however, didn't go much beyond that as the skies were soon taken over by thick clouds and there was a strong dust storm at noon.

But before the umbrellas could go up, the skies cleared after a drizzle at a few places. The sun made an appearance again by mid afternoon, making it hot and humid again.

"The heat in the morning was killing, especially after the heavy showers over the weekend. So it was quite a relief when the clouds made an appearance by noon. But before I could actually enjoy the weather again, the sun showed up!" said Amitav Roy, a south Delhi resident.

"It actually was quite humid in the afternoon so I hope that it rains by night," said Sagarika Verma, who works in a public relations firm.

For those like Roy and Verma, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has some good news.

"There will be rains and thundershowers, accompanied by squall in some places, by late evening. Wednesday will see partly cloudy skies and rains later. The maximum temperature will not go beyond 35 degree Celsius," said an official of IMD.

The maximum temperature recorded Tuesday was 34.1 degrees while the minimum was 22 degrees.

IMD also predicted that the rains would be here for some time as they were caused by cyclonic disturbances over Jammu and Kashmir.

"The cyclonic disturbances have not yet subsided so the weather will remain pleasant for some time," added the met official.
