Shimla : Himachal Pradesh is set to build as many as 8,000 flats across several industrial clusters of the state to meet the growing housing needs in these areas.
"These flats will come up in the industrial clusters of Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, Una, Parwanoo, Kala Amb and Poanta Sahib of Solan, Una and Sirmaur districts," Housing Minister Harsh Mahajan said here Wednesday.
The construction work has begun "and we hope it will be completed within a year", Mahajan said. The Himachal Pradesh Housing Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) has procured the land and has helped raise loans too.
The construction cost of the 8,000 flats is estimated to be around Rs.8 billion. Most of them will be single room accommodations.
