Beirut : Lebanese army troops besieging armed militants in the northern refugee camp of Nahr Al-Bared had full control Wednesday of most of the militants’ sites in the camp after fierce clashes.
The Lebanese national media centre said that the army was in full control of most of the camp sites after breaking into and destroying a number of buildings in the camp including the Naji Al-Ali medial complex.
Army units were subsequently sweeping the area of any remaining militants who might be stationed in the surrounding areas of the medical complex, the centre added.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese military command said one of its soldiers was killed in a confrontation with the militants Wednesday in the Nahr Al-Bared camp, bringing the death toll since the conflagration of these confrontations on May 20 to 141. Among them are 74 Lebanese soldiers.
The military command noted that the decision to end the confrontation with the militants had reached the “point of no return”.
