Mobster arrested after shootout in Delhi

New Delhi : An alleged mobster, wanted in at least 40 criminal cases, was arrested Friday afternoon after a brief shootout in northeast Delhi, police said.

Lakhan, who belongs to one Ravan gang in Uttar Pradesh, was admitted to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital after he received bullet injuries in his right leg during the shootout with the police in Sonia Vihar area.

Lakhan, who was wanted in several cases including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, kidnapping, theft, criminal intimidation and National Security Act of Delhi, allegedly opened fire at the cops after he was asked to surrender.

"The accused fired at least two gunshots at us but we had to fire in his leg to overpower him," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said.

Police said that a weapon and four cartridges were recovered from Lakhan's possession.
