MUSCAT : Oman introduced its 7th five-year development plan, covering 2006 to 2010, with over 199,000 job opportunities at an average of 40,000 new jobs per year.
The Omani government recently focused on providing job opportunities for citizens and setting plans and programs to develop the education sector.
Omani officials told KUNA Sunday that the Omani government focused on training and developing national staff to encourage them to work in all fields to replace foreign workers.
Around 5,282 Omanis were employed recently in the private sector in April 2007, according to official statistics, they said.
A recent report by the Omani Labor Minister Jumaa bin Ali bin Jumaa shows that 36,000 Omanis are employed for the first time every year, and that there is an increase of 6.5 percent annually in new opportunities, they added.
The Omani labor market is expanding due to several factors, including the security and stability prevailing over the sultanate, they pointed out.
