Lebanese professor condemns knighthood award to Rushdie

By IRNA
Beirut : A Lebanese professor Hassan Reza said on Monday that British queen's award to the apostate writer Salman Rushdie was a sort of Britain's taking revenge on Muslims.

Reza said Britain had by the award proved depth of its animosity and hostility towards Muslims and Islam.

He said the award also aimed to encourage the anti-Islamic and laic writers to write blasphemous articles against Islam, so Muslims worldwide are needed to be aware against such a conspiracy.

He added that despite all the futile efforts, Muslims will never back down on their principles and lofty values.

British Queen Elizabeth II granted knighthood title to Indian-born author Rushdie, 59 on June 16.

He has been facing an irrevocable death Fatwa (religious edict) issued by Father of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, the late Imam Khomeini, in 1989 for his book "The Satanic Verses," in which he blasphemed Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
