New Delhi : India's Sania Mirza has climbed two places to 44 in the women's world rankings as she prepared for her first-round match against 80th ranked Yaroslava Shevdova of Russia at the Wimbledon scheduled to begin Monday.
Sania, who has 540 points, will be keen to avenge her defeat at the hands of the 19-year-old Russian in the Bangalore Open quarterfinals in February.
If the Hyderabad-based Sania, who turns 21 in November, wins her first-round tie, she could be up against 25-year-old Russian Nadia Petrova in the next round. Petrova has climbed two places to be ranked ninth in the world.
Sania plays the women's doubles at Wimbledon with Shahar Peer of Israel and will partner compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi in the mixed doubles.
