Madrid : Spanish cup winners Sevilla announced that sporting director Monchi has extended his contract at the club until 2012.
Monchi, whose full name is Ramon Rodriguez, has been on the wish lists of several Spanish clubs, in particular Valencia.
He is considered one of the architects of Sevilla's recent success, thanks to having signed relatively unknown youngsters for the club like Brazilians Julio Baptista, Daniel Alves, Adriano, Luis Fabiano and Renato.
Monchi was reserve goalkeeper at Sevilla in the 1990s and has been sporting director at the Estadio Pizjuan since 2000.
