Panchkula (Haryana) : At least three children were killed and four seriously injured Tuesday when a live shell blew off near the home of a small-time miner in a Haryana town.
While three children died on the spot, four were rushed to hospital in a serious condition in Raipur Rani town, 35 km from here, of Panchkula district.
All the children were under 12 years of age and belonged to the family of miner Nand Lal and his wife Kamlesh, who also were seriously injured.
Police officials investigating the blast said that the children had picked up the live shell from near their house and were trying to open it with a hammer when it went off.
