Mumbai : Detectives have fanned out to several locations in search of Hasina Parkar, the sister of fugitive underworld don and March 12, 1993 blasts’ prime conspirator Dawood Ibrahim as she is wanted in a case of cheating and extortion by the Mumbai police.
More than 15 days after the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai police registered an offence, teams of uniformed personnel and plainclothesmen have launched a massive manhunt for Parkar. However, she is yet to be traced and is said to be hiding in an undisclosed location.
Police teams are keeping a close watch outside her Nagpada residence in south-central Mumbai. Last week, police visited her residence at least twice but did not find her. The intelligence wing of the state police is also being asked to help track her down.
This is the first time Hasinaappa, as she is fondly known, is facing trouble from the law enforcement machinery, though it is known that she has been under constant watch by various agencies after the serial blasts rocked Mumbai and Dawood’s name figured among the top conspirators.
Parkar had allegedly demanded ransom from a city-based builder. In this case, two builders who allegedly had links with her have been arrested and are in police custody.
According to sources, at least five teams of police have been formed to track down Parkar, who is said to be hiding in Maharashtra.
