London : Joey Barton has been suspended by his club, Manchester City, until the end of the season after a bust-up in training, say media reports.
The England midfielder was reportedly involved in an incident with teammate Ousmane Dabo in training that left Dabo needing hospital treatment after suffering mouth injuries.
City confirmed that one of their players had been suspended but refused to name him.
However, Barton’s agent, Willie McKay, said his charge was the player concerned.
“As far as I’ve heard, Joey was defending himself. But because it is Joey, it makes headlines,” he told the BBC. “It happens on training grounds all over the country, from Chelsea to Yeovil.”
