Both the parties condemned the Modi government for its “typical fascist tactics” and its “communal agenda”.

The CPI-M cautioned the central government to guard against the “ploy” of ordering a CID inquiry to avoid the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ensure that the central agency probe the “ghastly affair”.

While more Gujarat police officials were arrested Thursday over the staged killing, the Supreme Court held that it was “prima facie” a fit case to be probed by the CBI.

“Modi should accept responsibility and resign…. He is the principal accused”, Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

In an article in the party mouthpiece, ‘People’s Democracy’, the CPI-M said: “Its pernicious ideology of ‘Hindu Rashtra’ pitted, as it is, in complete antagonism with the constitutional rule of the modern secular democratic Indian republic continuously pushes the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)/BJP to assault all constitutional authorities and instruments of administration.”

The article said the objectivity and impartiality of the force was consciously destroyed as they were deployed to advance the political objective of the RSS and the BJP.

“It is this viciousness of communalism that eats into the very vitals of our constitutional rule of law. These gory instances of fake encounters only proves this, once again,” the article added.
