Elites ate up 60 Kg cake, workers drench in open

Jammu: Karl Marx notion that every society is divided between ruling and ruled class was evident during the celebration of 60 th foundation day of Indian National Trade Union Congress, here today. While, `elite' Congress leaders were enjoying sixty kilogram cake at a three-star hotel, the `poor' delegates invited for the celebration were left to drench in open, hardly few hundred meters away from the hotel outside Abhinav Theater.
Â
The delegates had come all the way to listen to Union Minister for Labour Oscar Fernandez and Chief Minister. However, neither Chief Minister nor Oscar Fernandez turned up to the venue for convocation.
Â
According to sources, while Oscar Fernandez, owing to his tight schedule had to leave for Delhi, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad could not attend due to ill health. Â Â Â Â
Â
The delegates waited for hours together outside Abhinav Theatre bearing the heavy downpour being experienced here since last night.
Â
At last, to their great dismay, the workers gathered from various parts of the region had to contend with same old faces of state Congress ministers led by PCC chief Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed and accompanied by 'omnipresent' Mangat Ram Sharma besides Jugal Kishore.
Â
The INTUC state Chairman had a tough time to convince the delegates who were strongly objecting to the callous attitude of the leadership, particularly absence of chief minister.
Â
Sources within party told News Agency of Kashmir that Azad deliberately skipped the function to escape the embarrassment for not fulfilling the promise of releasing COLA installments due for two years to PSU employees.
Â
The Chief Minister had assured PSU employees on May Day last year that government would soon release their COLA installments.
