Liverpool’s oldest Indian restaurant up for sale

London : Liverpool’s oldest Indian restaurant in the city centre is closing and has been put up for sale for the price of nearly 1.3 million pounds.

The restaurant, known as Asha, first brought curry to Bold Street in 1964. Kolkata-born Dipak Choudhury, who owns the restaurant, and his wife Chandana live above the premises, but their children are pursuing careers as barristers and accountants, leaving him with no choice but to offer his beloved restaurant for sale.

Choudhury told the local media: “When I first came to Liverpool, nobody had even seen an aubergine and hadn’t heard of things like green chilli or coriander.

“Our customers now are knowledgeable about Indian food, cooking, herbs and spices, and want to embrace the culture.”
