Nairobi : There were 15 Indians among the 106 on board a Kenya Airways airliner that is reported to have crashed in the Cameroon Saturday.Media reports said 14 people have been killed.
While a Cameroon radio station reported that the Boeing 737-800 has crashed at a place called Niete, Kenya Airways has not yet confirmed it.
Kenya Airways managing director Titus Naikuni said that there were also 34 Cameroonians, seven South Africans, six Chinese, six Nigerians, five British and one US national, according to reports here.
Cameroon's civil aviation authority picked up a distress signal soon after the airliner took off from Douala, Cameroon's largest, city. The signal came 65 km southwest of Douala and the authorities sent a rescue team around 11 a.m. Cameroon time.
The plane was on way from Abidjan in the Ivory Coast to Nairobi with a stopover at Douala.
Meanwhile, Kenya has sent a specialist team to aid in the search operation.
