New Delhi : A one-time national wrestling champion was arrested for allegedly murdering seven people in Haryana, police said Saturday.

Sleuths of the Delhi Police special cell arrested Rajbir Friday near Najafgarh bus stand in southwest Delhi. A pistol and two live cartridges were found on his person. The police had laid a trap on a secret tip-off that Rajbir would come to meet his associates near the bus stand.

Rajbir had won the national wrestling champion in 1983 and 1984 and also served the Border Security Force (BSF) in 1985. He left the force in 1997, police said.

"During sustained interrogations the accused disclosed that he was involved in 10 heinous cases including seven murders in Haryana," Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said.

"He also confessed to his involvement in other cases of attempt to murder, extortion and violation of the Arms Act of Delhi and Haryana," he added.
