New Delhi : Five people have been arrested for duping credit card holders by using their card numbers and codes for buying air tickets at Indira Gandhi International airport here, police said Monday.
The accused, Konthujam Ishwar Chander Singh and his accomplices M. Shyama Nanda, Shubh Nath Jha, Saroj Singh and Jitender Giri were arrested Sunday after police conducted raids at various locations in the capital.
The matter came to light after Bharat Kumar, a cardholder, received an intimation from the ICICI Bank regarding the purchase of air tickets worth Rs.22,000 from Air Deccan airlines. Kumar, however, had not made any such transaction.
He immediately lodged a complaint with airport officials and Air Deccan and a probe was launched into the matter, a police official said.
It was found that three tickets were fraudulently purchased from Air Deccan and the passengers using these tickets were flying from Kolkata to Delhi.
Said Deputy Commissioner of Police Naresh Kumar: "We immediately laid a trap at the airport and Nanda was held with his wife and infant at the domestic terminal. After interrogations, he revealed the names of the others involved in the racket."
