Rejecting the BJP allegation that they were not getting due invitations, the minister said: "We have invited United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, National Democratic Alliance chairman A.B. Vajpayee, besides President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat."

"We have invited all MPs of the two houses – Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha," he told media persons.

Aiyar said he was against politicising the historic event and hoped that the "patriotic MPs" of BJP would attend a May 11 gala event at the Red Fort.

The minister also addressed over 2,000 artistes from across the country who would be performing at Red Fort on that day.
