Bhubaneswar : Unexpected storms accompanied by heavy rains and lightning in parts of Orissa have killed eight people, including six women.
Heavy rains lashed capital Bhubaneswar and the districts of Angul, Dhenkanal Nayagarh and Puri Monday night.
While four victims died after being struck by lightning in Dhenkanal, three lost their lives in Angul and one person was killed in Puri.
Several trees were uprooted and electricity supply was disrupted in these regions.
"We have asked administrative officials of the regions to investigate the deaths," a state official said.
In Ganjam district, 14 monkeys were also killed after lightning struck the tree they were sitting on.
