Jaipur : The Rajasthan police department has suggested to the state government to introduce a chapter on traffic rules in school curriculum as is being done in Punjab.
After the government's approval, traffic experts would design a new course for the children.
The department's proposal recommends that traffic education be imparted from Classes 1 to 5.
"It's very necessary to teach the younger generation about the need for traffic safety. We have sent a proposal to impart traffic education in schools. It would not only increase awareness but also help in checking the number of accidents in the future," said Navdeep Singh, additional director general of police, traffic.
Teachers imparting traffic education would be trained through various state agencies. The training programme could be conducted in phases.
Several private schools in the state are already giving such education to the students with the help of senior retired officials of transport and traffic departments.
