Dubai : India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Thursday decided to set up a task force to study the visa regime in the UAE and simplify the mechanism for attestation of work permits and work contracts through information technology.
Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and UAE Labour Minister AL Kaabi, after a meeting of the Indo-UAE Joint Committee, also discussed measures for the protection and welfare of Indian workers in UAE and the modalities for effective implementation of a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two countries.
The joint committee discussed steps to enhance cooperation in employment of overseas Indian workers and training in three major sectors – construction, hospitality and tourism and health care, according to an official release.
It also decided to set up a grievance redressal mechanism to address problems faced by Indian workers, under which a monthly meeting would be held between Indian officials of the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consul General in Dubai with those of the Ministry of Labour.
The next meeting of the joint committee would be held in New Delhi in October.
