Lucknow : A triumphant Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, who is poised to become chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time, Friday promised a crime-free government and said the results were a victory for her party's ideology.

Dressed in her favourite pink, Mayawati said at a press conference at the BSP party headquarters here after paying floral tributes to life-size statues of Dalit messiah B.R. Ambedkar, her mentor and BSP founder, the late Kanshi Ram – and herself.

With multicoloured gerbera flowers in the backdrop, a beaming Mayawati accepted bouquets and greetings from the party, which seems set to cross the halfway mark of 202.

She said this is an outcome of the long struggle of 'bahujan samaj sants' like Narayan Guru, Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule.

"The people have put all their faith in democracy. After 14 years this is the first time a single party has been returned to power," Mayawati said, as jubilant party workers burst crackers, danced and smeared each other with 'gulal'.

"We will provide democratic governance and will make Uttar Pradesh injustice free and crime free," she promised.

"We fought elections in a planned manner," she said, pointing out that the process of involving upper caste people in the party worked to the BSP's favour.
