Lucknow : The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Friday emerged victorious with a simple majority, pocketing 206 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly, according to the tally late Friday night.
The following is the tally released by the Election Commission at 10.30 p.m. for the seven-phase election, including results for 379 seats and leads for 23 seats:
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP): 206
Samajwadi Party (SP): 97
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 50
Congress: 22
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD): 10
Apna Dal: 0
Others: 17
Polling for the Khaga assembly seat in Fatehpur district had been countermanded following the death of the Congress candidate in a road accident.
