"Serhiy Honchar will undergo follow-up tests and a medical evaluation based on blood tests taken by independent medical personnel on behalf of the T-Mobile team. These unannounced tests were taken at Liege (Liege-Bastogne-Liege race) and the Tour of Romandie," said the team's official website Friday.

"The blood test results of the 36-year-old… are within all UCI (International Cycling Union) limits and no doping violation has taken place. Honchar will not compete for a period of 30 days while this testing takes place."

The ban means Honchar will definitely miss Giro d'Italia, one of the most important cycling tours in the world, which starts Saturday, and can be back for Tour de France.
