Following a tip-off, the troops of 43 Rashtriya Rifles encircled a suspected hideout of a top LeT commander in a forest area of Kud Gali in Poonch district, about 220 km northwest of here.

“Troops established contact with the terrorist today afternoon and managed to kill one after a brief encounter,” said an army spokesman.

He said the slain militant was identified as Saifullah, the LeT commander for Poonch district.

The troops were searching the area for more militants hiding there, if any. “The killing of the LeT district commander is a big success in the drive against terrorists,” said the spokesman.
