Kalam to inaugurate IIT research centre in Bengal

Kolkata, May 17 (IANS) President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will Thursday lay the foundation stone for a research centre at the premier Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur and later visit a school for spastics here.

Kalam, who arrived here late Wednesday night, will inaugurate the B.C. Roy Multi-Speciality Research Centre at IIT-Kharagpur, about 125 km west of Kolkata, and also deliver a lecture there.

On his return to Kolkata later, he would interact with students at the National Council of Eduction in Jadavpur.

He will also visit Manovikas Kendra, a centre for spastic children, in Kolkata.

Kalam will attend the centenary year celebrations of the Calcutta Club. He returns to the national capital later Thursday.

A heavy security blanket has been thrown in and around Kolkata for Kalam’s visit.
