Islamabad : The death toll has risen to 31 in incidents caused by heavy storms and rain that hit the central and northern parts of Pakistan overnight, Pakistani media reported Saturday.
The high intensity storm smashed signboards and uprooted electricity polls in Pakistan's northwest Swat district where at least 10 people were killed and 60 injured, Geo news channel said.
Four siblings were killed in Sambrial in the central province of Punjab as the roof of their home collapsed after heavy torrential rain, while 17 more died and dozens were injured in other parts of the province.
Authorities were still making efforts to restore electricity and telecommunications that were disrupted in several cities by the wind that blew at speeds of up to 100 km per hour.
Hundreds of people in the earthquake-affected areas of Pakistani-administered Kashmir spent the night under open skies as the storm blew off the roofs of their shelters.
More storms and rains have been forecast for Saturday.
