Chandigarh : A Punjab Police officer posted here shot himself dead at his official residence Sunday.
Vivek Mishra, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, shot himself in the head at his bedroom in Sector 39 with his 9 mm service pistol.
The incident, according to police officials, took place around at 2 a.m. Mishra, the family told the police, was depressed because there were certain cases pending against him in court.
His family – wife Sunita and two children – returned from New Delhi following the incident.
Mishra asked his son for a glass of water. As soon as he drank the water, he shot himself in the head. He was rushed to a government hospital where he was declared brought dead.
