DU makes provision for OBC quota possibility

New Delhi : Delhi University in its admission process for the next academic year has made a provision for Other backward Classes (OBC) students in case the Supreme Court gives a green signal to the quota policy in time.

OBC candidates have been asked to mention their status in the admission form for graduate courses. DU's dean of students' welfare S.K. Vij said the university was gathering the data on students under the category in order to make the "admission process smoother".

"If we get any direction from the human resource development ministry on the quota issue, we will act accordingly," Vij told reporters, while announcing the date of the availability of the admission forms.

The sale and receipt of forms for admissions to over 70 colleges are affiliated to the university will start June 1 and will continue till June 15.

The Supreme Court has stayed a new law providing for 27 percent quota for OBC students in centrally funded institutes of higher education.
