Chittagong : India's leg spinner Anil Kumble didn't turn up for the fourth day of the first India-Bangladesh Test match here Monday as he was down with fever.

His condition is being monitored, said team manager Surendra Bhave.

"Kumble has fever and is resting in the hotel," Bhave told IANS.

Asked if he would be able to take the field on the fifth and final day of the match Tuesday, Bhave said: "We will have to monitor his condition and see…"

Kumble's absence from the field did not make much difference to the team as they completely dominated Bangladesh batting.

Kumble had batted Saturday and there was no play at all Sunday because of rain and unplayable ground conditions.

On Monday, Kumble, 36, remained at the hotel and his place was taken by Zaheer Khan at the crease.

Kumble, who is playing his 114th Test here, was seen having dinner with his wife and son at the hotel restaurant Sunday evening.

When one of the locals went to invite him for dinner Monday, the Karnataka player told him that he was not well and excused himself.

Kumble retired from One-day International cricket after the recent World Cup. He has taken 337 wickets in 271 ODI matches.
