S&P 500 index at all-time high

New York : Wall Street continued to be bullish Monday with Standard & Poor's 500 index registering a new record high.

The S&P 500 was up 6.23, or 0.41 percent, to 1,528.98, surpassing its record high of 1,527.46 in March 2000.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 26.65 points at 13,583.18 and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 29.23 points to 2,587.68.

Wall Street was boosted by a series of acquisition news.

General Electric Co said Monday morning that it will sell its plastics division to Saudi Arabia's largest industrial company, Saudi Basic Industries Corp.

Alltel Corp, a telecommunications company, said Sunday it agreed to be acquired for $24.8 billion by TPG Capital, formerly Texas Pacific Group, and GS Capital Partners, a subsidiary of Goldman Sachs.
