Shimla : The Congress Friday won the Shimla civic polls, trouncing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after a tough fight.
The party, which has controlled the Shimla corporation since it was set up in 1986, retained control of the 25-seat municipal body.
The votes were counted manually as electronic machines were not used during the elections Wednesday, which saw a 62 percent voter turnout.
The Congress this time had a tough challenger in the BJP. For some time in the morning, it was neck and neck giving Congress leaders here some anxious moments.
