The spokesman said alert troops observed movement of terrorists through night vision devices near the fence on the LoC around Sunday midnight.

"As the terrorists neared the fence on the LoC, troops opened fire. Three terrorists were killed in the heavy gunfight," he said.

"A search of the area was carried out at the first light and bodies of three terrorists were recovered along with three AK-47 rifles," he added.

Levels of cross-border infiltration as well as violence have increased in recent months, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said last week, as he ruled out withdrawal of the army from the state.
