Shimla, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded immediate resignation of Himachal Chief Minsiter Virbhadra Singh and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the illegal money transaction scam.
Congress leader Vijay Singh Mankotia had distributed copies of a compact disc (CD) to media persons Monday in Dharamsala, which allegedly had recordings of phone conversations that Singh and his wife Pratibha, a Lok Sabha member, had with a man about illegal money transactions.
“Virbhadra Singh must step down immediately after this expose,” BJP’s general secretary Khushi Ram Balnata said Tuesday.
Ahead of the Hamirpur by-election on June 2, the BJP has started playing the CD. However, Singh has denied the allegation and said the voice in the CD is not his.
The Congress high command suspended Mankotia a day after he accused Singh of the illegal cash transactions. Party sources said the expulsion of Mankotia, a legislator from Kangra valley, is expected later Tuesday.
