Olympiakos won the 2006-2007 Greek first division championship earlier this month. AEK came in second, securing its participation in the Champions League third qualifying round.

The 35-year-old attacking midfielder, who was also the FIFA player of the Year in 1999, said that being with his family in Athens played a major role in his decision.

The left-footed Brazilian will be the best-known player to wear AEK’s yellow and black jersey in its 83-year history.
