Mumbai : Four people were charred to death and one seriously injured Friday when a tanker carrying firecrackers in the driver’s cabin exploded in Maharashtra’s Sangli area.
According to police, the incident occurred near Langewadi village, about 500 km from here.
The tanker usually meant to ferry chemicals was empty and it was not known how the consignment caught fire, Inspector R.Y. Shinde of the area said.
The fire caused the tanker engine to burst.
The firecrackers were meant for Diwali and the dead were travelling in the driver’s cabin, Shinde told IANS.
The owner of the tanker from Pratik Roadlines has been summoned to identify the victims and explain the presence of the deadly consignment on board.
