Macau : India’s Geet Sethi went down in the final of the individual billiards competition at the second Asian Indoor Games in Macau and had to be content with a silver medal. It was India’s second medal in cue sports, where they were expected to dominate, but disappointed a lot.
Sethi, a multi-world champion lost 1-3 to Praput Chaithana Sakum of Thailand in the final.
With Indians seeded one and two, an all-India final was expected but World Champion Pankaj Advani lost to the Thai in the quarterfinals.
Geet Sethi who started the tournament as second seed, beat Khami al Obaidli of Qatar 3-0 and then in the quarterfinals scored a narrow 3-2 win over K.H. Sirisoma of Sri Lanka to make it to the semi-finals.
Into the last four, Sethi was up against arch-rival Singaporean Peter Gilchrist whom he beat 3-1 to move into the final.
Earlier, Advani, the top seed scored a 3-1 win over Indonesian Hekta in pre-quarters, but lost to Praput Chaithana Sakum of Thailand 2-3 in quarters. Chaithana went to reach the final
