New Delhi : Hoping to strengthen the party ahead of next general elections, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has asked select young party secretaries and Youth Congress leaders to submit in writing their ideas on how to go about it.
The Amethi MP, who has been meeting select groups of young Congress leaders in the last two days, asked them to give their response as soon as possible.
“He (Rahul) has asked us to give in writing the role we ourselves and the youth can play in strengthening the party. We have also been asked to write our ideas on how to attract youth to the party,” Suresh Kodikkunnil, a party secretary from Kerala who was one of those who met Gandhi, told IANS.
Party insiders said Rahul, being projected as the next generation leader of the Congress, wants to finalise his strategy to rejuvenate the party after going through the written recommendations.
“Youth Congress leaders in the states have also been asked give their views in writing to him,” said another leader who did not want to be named.
In response to numerous questions if he planned to make changes in the party organisation, Rahul has said he would decide after discussions with his colleagues.
The 37-year-old Gandhi-Nehru scion has been meeting young leaders ever since he was given charge of the Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in September.
“Rahul has made it clear that he is democratic. He asked us what our views were on holding frequent organisational elections in all the party wings. He keeps taking notes whenever someone puts up a good suggestion and he always encourages us to voice our views openly,” said a NSUI leader.
