This is the third time since 2000 that South Korea has refused a visa to the Dalai Lama, who has long been accused by the Chinese government of being engaged in secessionist activities.

“The words and deeds of the Dalai Lama in the past decades have shown he is a political exile engaged in secessionist activities under the cloak of religion,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao told reporters Tuesday.

China constantly and resolutely opposes any country or any people to use the Dalai Lama issue as a lever to interfere in China’s domestic affairs, he stressed.
