Website on J&K Gujjars launched

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation – an organisation working for the welfare of Indian Tribes under its “Focus on Gujjars” scheme today launched its first ever website www.jktribals.co.cc on Gujjar tribe of the state.

The main objective of the site is to keep the community informed with changing times in the age of information technology. The web-site can be accessed at www.jktribals.co.cc with an alternate address www.jktribals.page.tl and is going to be made available at the web-server of community simultaneously, PRO TRCF Dr Javaid Rahi told News Agency of Kashmir.

The site has been specially designed by Sajjad Hamdani, eminent sculpture of Kashmir for TRCF.

Speaking after the launch of the website, Dr.Javaid Rahi, National Secretary of Tribal Foundation hoped that those browsing the website would get detailed information about the Gujjar Tribe, their History, Culture, Social Structure, Economy, Language-Gojri, elite’s class and its different facets. Importance had been given to tribal Gujjar Politics and Heritage of Gujjars in the website. Besides, there was a separate chapter on “Gujjar News” and “What is new” on the site beside a special focus on Tribal Gujjar Women. .Dr. Rahi added

The site has been launched to showcase the different aspects of Gujjars- the Scheduled Tribe community which form third largest ethnic group of Jammu and Kashmir after Kashmiri and Dogras comprise nearly 20 % population in the State. They have distinction over other identities and have their own language GOJRI which is an offshoot of Indo-Aryan language, the website is to highlight the Costumes, Traditions, food habits, living habits and Arts, and Crafts which varies from area to area.

Dr. Javaid Rahi said the, organisation Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation has also gone hi-tech with the launch of website for keeping the researcher within the glob and around the country abreast with the changing scenario of Gujjar Tribe in Jammu and Kashmir. He described the facility as a step towards optimum use of hi-technology to serve the people better with efficiency and speed. He said that website would be immensely useful for the people particularly those living in far-off places in the State.

He said that the website would have latest information about Gujjars of State and country so that the people intending to undertake research could plan just with a click of log on the website.

Dr. Rahi also explained in detail the salient features of TRCF’s website www.jktribals.co.cc and www.jktribals.page.tl. He said that the website will be repository of all the vital information about Gujjars and Bakarwals of State.

He said the website would provide access to general public and media to any government order, SRO, notification etc about Gujjars which can be downloaded by the intending persons from anywhere.
