Bathinda (Punjab) : A breach in an irrigation canal led to the inundation of several parts of Punjab’s Bathinda town Thursday.
People woke up to find that water had flooded their houses after an embankment of an irrigation canal broke at about 6 a.m. in Bathinda, about 250 km from state capital Chandigarh.
About 5,500 houses have been affected and in some parts the water level rose to about five feet.
Senior officers were supervising operations to plug the breach and the army’s help has been sought.
