New Delhi : A Blueline bus in Delhi Wednesday injured a 12-year-old boy in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area, leading to protests by a mob that damaged that vehicle as well as a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus.
According to police, the mishap occurred after the driver of the speeding Blueline bus, plying on Route No 469 between Ambedkar Nagar and Anand Vihar, hit Mohit near the Mother Dairy bus stand at around 5.30 p.m.
Mohit was standing on the steps of the stationary DTC bus when the mishap occurred. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital with both legs fractured.
Angered by the accident, bystanders damaged both buses and were about to set them on fire when police prevented them.
The driver of the rogue bus managed to flee from the spot.
“We have dispatched teams to arrest the absconding Blueline driver,” said Mohan Lal, in charge of the Pandav Nagar police station.
Last week, a recklessly driven Blueline bus racing against another bus ran over three people on a pavement, killing one and seriously injuring the other two near Sangam cinema hall in southwest Delhi’s R.K. Puram.
That incident too had sparked angry reaction from locals. People used sticks and stones to shatter the windowpanes of the killer bus as well as other buses passing by.
The capital’s nearly 4,000 Blueline buses, forming a crucial part of the city’s public transport, are facing public uproar because of rash and negligent driving.
They have claimed 103 lives so far this year.
