Raipur : Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd, has recorded its best-ever production, posting a growth of as much as 176 percent in some steel products, a BSP statement said Thursday.
“BSP has recorded growth in all areas for April to Oct 2007. The growth in production of value-added special steel items, at a time when BSP needs to attune its production levels with market dynamics and increasing demand for steel in the country, is particularly significant,” the statement said.
The items in which high production was achieved include boiler quality (BQ) and high tensile (HT) plates, electrode quality (EQ) wire rods, TMT (thermo-mechanical treatment) wire rods and TMT bars.
“During April to Oct 2007, the plant has recorded best-ever production of BQ and HT plates, EQ wire rods, TMT wire rods and bars since inception,” the statement said.
“The production of EQ wire rods at 109,261 tonnes in April-Oct was 51.1 percent more than the production of 51,100 tonnes in corresponding period last year. The plant has been able to register a production growth of 176 percent in TMT wire rods. The plant’s wire rod mill has produced 124,720 tonnes of TMT wire rods till Oct in the current fiscal as compared to 45,100 tonnes in April to Oct 2006,” the statement noted.
