Agartala(IANS) :The toll in Thursday’s shooting by an irate trooper of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Tripura has risen to four with an injured officer dying in a hospital Friday, officials said.
CRPF Havildar S.S. Ram, 41, who was shot Thursday by a colleague, died at the GB hospital here, a police spokesman said.
“Rifleman Bishram Singh, 37, of the CRPF shot dead Havildar P.K. Sharma, 38, and constable B.K. Shil Sharma, 39, on the spot after an angry quarrel over the allocation of duties at the insurgency prone Jagabandhu Para highway under Gandachara police station,” a police spokesman said Thursday.
Before other troopers could reach the spot, Singh shot himself dead with his service weapon.
Singh was from Uttar Pradesh, while P.K. Sharma and B.K. Shil Sharma hailed from Assam. Ram, who died Friday, was a resident of Bihar.
The bodies of the victims were sent to their respective homes Friday.
The CRPF is deployed in the area to launch a counter-insurgency operation against separatist rebels.
CRPF authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident, the latest in a series of such actions involving members of the security forces.
Last year, at least six CRPF and Border Security Force (BSF) men, including an assistant commandant, were killed in similar incidents in Tripura.
