New Delhi : Vice President Hamid Ansari will deliver the keynote address on “Emerging Foreign Policy and Security Challenges for India” at the 42nd foundation day celebrations of the think tank Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) here Saturday.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is also the IDSA president, will preside over the meeting. Defence Minister A.K. Antony will be the guest of honour and will address the gathering.
This year’s function assumes significance, as IDSA will confer the first K. Subrahmanyam Award on Sudha Mahalingam, an energy specialist and distinguished scholar of international affairs, a defence ministry release Thursday said.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. It has been instituted in recognition of the services of K. Subrahmanyam, one of India’s foremost strategic experts and former IDSA director.
Mahalingam’s selected writings and a special issue of the IDSA journal themed “Strategic Analysis on Energy” will be distributed at the function.
Two new publications, one titled “Journal of Defence Studies” and the other on chemical and biological warfare, as also the “Asian Strategic Review 2007” will also be launched.
