Mohali : Veteran spinner Anil Kumble was Thursday named captain of the Indian cricket team for the three-Test series against Pakistan.
Indian cricket board joint secretary M.P. Panodve made the announcement here at a press briefing after the second India-Pakistan One-Day International. He did not name any vice-captain for the team.
Kumble has been brought in to lead the team after Sachin Tendulkar declined to be the skipper, though ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was widely tipped as front-runner for the post.
Rahul Dravid stepped down as captain ahead of Pakistan’s India tour.
Meanwhile, the Indian team that played the first two ODIs against Pakistan have been retained for the next two ODIs too.
