With 566 wickets in 118 Tests and 337 in 271 One-day Internationals, the 37-year-old is already the top Indian wicket taker in both versions of the game.

Kumble, who is one of the two bowlers who have taken all 10 wickets in a Test innings – the other being Jim Laker of England, has already led India in a solitary ODI. And when he leads the team out for the first Test at the Ferozeshah Kotla in Delhi Nov 22 his ambition to lead India in Tests will also be fulfilled. Incidentally, it will be the same venue at which he took all-10 against Pakistan in early 1999.

Kumble in Tests:

* Debut: vs. England at Manchester on August 9-14, 1990, with figures of 3 for 105 and 0/65 in the two innings

* Best bowling: 10/74 vs. in an innings against Pakistan at Delhi in February 1999. He is the second bowler to claim all 10 wickets in an innings. England’s Jim Laker was the first to accomplish the feat with 10/53 against Australia at Old Trafford in 1956.

* Only Australia’s Shane Warne (708) and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (702) have claimed more wickets than Kumble.

* Best batting: 110 not out vs. England at The Oval, London, 2007. It was his 118th Test and 151st innings. It’s the most number of Tests any player has taken to notch up his first Test century.

* At 36 years 297 days, Kumble is the oldest Indian Test player to post a maiden century.

* Captain in ODIs: Led India to a four-wicket win over England at Madras on 25.1.2002 in his only match as captain.
